"It's a loan for a home, a lifelong investment..."
(Quotes in red italics starting each page are lines from the musical.)
ABOUT this project: Eve 'n' Stephen are socially conscious poets and songwriters who teamed up in 2011 to work on MORTGAGE MELTDOWN: THE MUSCIAL, because everyone should know WHAT THE [bleep] HAPPENED, and how to fix the problems through better laws, active democracy, and education. Already, our nation has lost $12 TRILLION through ignorance and corruption, without fixing the conditions that led to the Meltdown. We can do better! Your DONATIONS and VOLUNTEERING keep this project moving forward on schedule. BONUS! All materials created with your donations are posted FREE to download for personal use and public education.
Here are the projects we are developing for 2013-2014:
Production of a brand-new two-hour musical in 2014 for live audiences and for filming (all digital production) through MIDPENINSULA COMMUNITY MEDIA CENTER in Palo Alto, California.
Broadcast of MORTGAGE MELTDOWN: THE MUSICAL on community access cable television stations across America (no censorship!) and on Internet, in time to inform the public before the elections of 2014.
Production of a soundtrack so you can sing all the catchy, original SONGS from MORTGAGE MELTDOWN: THE MUSICAL.
Licensing for groups who want to PERFORM all or part of MORTGAGE MELTDOWN: THE MUSICAL at colleges, community theaters, and other venues at affordable costs.
EDUCATION, starting with this website's EVENTS and RESOURCES. We need to educate college/university students, their instructors, and the general public on the causes and effects of the mortgage meltdown, and keep everyone informed of current events so people can take action in their communities. Adults remember the financial collapse of 2008 and still feel its effects, but for teens just entering college, 2008 was in the distant past, when they were kids.
As a professional curriculum designer and experienced teacher, Eve is working with college students and an Economics professor to develop classroom lessons, links to handouts, and other resources for college/university and for the general public.Update for September, 2013: The curriculum resources now include links to first-hand testimony from court records, news articles, government actions and Economics lessons. The link to HOME DEFENDERS LEAGUE will connect you with petitions to assist families facing foreclosure, and stories of how homeowners and activists are fighting back!
Does this project sound long, difficult, and expensive? YES! But it's what we must do.
*** THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! ***
Help Make It Happen! We have plenty of red ink to explain this Mortgage Meltdown. What more do we need? YOU!
